Settings for router to connect to Internet via fiber optic modem

vor 10 Stunden

Hi Team,

I purchased a fiber optic modem (Glasfaser-Modem 2) from Telekom and would like to use it with my own router model Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition.

I have successfully registered the fiber optic modem yesterday.

I need information on what settings I need to configure on my router to access Internet via fiber optic modem. As far as I understand, I need a PPPoE username and password to connect. I never received it from Telekom, as well as Access number (Zugangsnummer).

Maybe I'm wrong and the connection should be established in a different way. If so, please explain how I should proceed.

Thank you.

Thank you for your contribution to our community 🙂

The required data and settings may differ from model to model. However, you should be able to find this information in the operating instructions of the third-party router 👍🏽

If you still need access data or information, please contact me here again.

      Best regards
      Timur

      Hi @Timur K.

      Thank you for your reply.

I don't have access data - username and password. As I understand, I need to insert username and password in router configuration (in PPPoE settings) to be able to access Internet via fiber optic modem.

Also, as I mentioned, I don't have Access number (Zugangsnummer), and no Connection identifier (Anschlusskennung). Maybe you can help me to find them.

After I successfully registered the fiber optic modem (Glasfaser-Modem 2) yesterday I only received mail from Telekom that "Your fiber optic connection is now set up. Connect your router to fiber optic modem". But no any credentials were sent to me.

I've registered on Customer Portal with my e-mail, thought that I can find some information there, but I cannot even link my contract, when I try -  the message "Maintenance work" appears permanently.

      Thank you.

Good evening @UstymenkoF , in this case we have a little limited support, because it's a third party device... So we don't know the exact and correct settings. But: We can help you with the access data. Can you fill in a callback number in your profile and tell us, when you are available for a call? :-)

      Kind regards Sven

so the data is on its way and everything should work out with them. Otherwise, please write again.

      Have a nice evening,

Normally on all new telekom contracts the easy login is active. That means you don't need any credentials in the PPoE settings. So you can leave both blank or if the router wants something populated in these fields you can enter any nonsense for username ans password.

The bigger problem might be that Telekom requires the VLAN ID 7 in the WAN interface. On my quick internet search about your Router I couldn't find any info that this feature is supported.

      Hi @henniero,

Yes, you are right. Unfortunately, there is no option to set VLAN ID 7 in the WAN interface of the router Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition ((

I have an idea to visit an electronics supermarket tomorrow and buy another router. May someone from Telekom hilft Team please confirm that model Telekom Speedport Smart 4R (not just 4 but exactly 4R) will help me finally connect to internet in my new apartment? Would it work normally with Telekom Glasfaser-Modem 2?

Should I use interface Link/LAN 1 on this router to connect fiber optic modem?

Does router Telekom Speedport Smart 4R have an option to set VLAN ID 7 on the interface to which fiber optic modem is connected?

If I use this router with fiber optic modem only - should I somehow register the router at Telekom for it to start working?

Sorry for so many questions, just want to be sure that this time I'll get everything done properly.

      Hi again, and yes @UstymenkoF,

that router will work. 🙂 And you should use Link/LAN 1 and after that easy support should do the work.

      Sincerely,

      Johannes
