Danke für den Hinweis mit Nextcloud. Habe jetzt die Antwort gefunden.
I’m using the latest server version, and from the web front end I can check a file, then hold SHIFT and click on another file and the entire range will be selected. It’s slightly counter-intuitive in that the first click has to be on the check box (because the default action is download) and the second one has to not be on the box, but it does work.

Also bei der ersten Datei die Checkbox anwählen, dann Shift + Klick auf die Datei (nicht die Checkbox). Logisch...
