Cancel contract: Moving into apartment with existing internet

vor 2 Jahren

How do I cancel my internet contract with Telekom since moving into an apartment which has already an internet connection? According to German Law , since December 2021,  "if you move into an apartment where someone already lives and a telecommunications contract is already in place… you can terminate the contract before the end of the contract term to move out."

I have attempted to contact Telekom through their customer service but it's almost impossible to make progress there - particularly as a non-native german speaker. I have documents to prove the fact that I live in a new apartment (Anmeldung) with existing internet (internet bills) which I can provide to the relevant persons.

Would appreciate some help with this - many thanks!
Alex

    This is wrong!

The law only states if the provider cannot provide service at the new location. In this case, the contractual services must be retained 1:1.

If Telekom can continue the same contract at the new place of residence, then it is their right to hold on to the contract. Simply get a 2nd telephone socket in the apartment. Only if this would not be possible, as an example because lines to the house or in the house are missing, a cancellation could become possible.

OK, this will be my last message as I don't find it fun getting questioned and accused when trying to find answers in and amongst conflicting information. (I also apologise if I was being inpatient about the connection checking process taking longer than expected.)

Perhaps why I "doubt all other information" is because the first time I heard about this special condition for termination was while having a phone call with a Telekom employee - someone who I trusted at the time. So considering I heard this information from Telekom themselves AND from a company whose mission is to protect consumers, it is very hard to ignore that information. Do you not agree? Maybe the question should be: "Is it OK for Telekom employees to mislead customers or abuse customer trust in order to make a sale?"

The fact that I'm doing my own research into whether the information I heard from the Telekom employee or Verbraucherzentrale is actually valid requires no input or effort from you (or Telekom - unclear on the relationship) so I'm not sure why the tone in these messages is so aggressive. I have followed your advice and am grateful for the time you have taken so far.

Now, please do not answer this post. As I say I continue to check the validity of what I have heard and need no further input from Telekom for now.

Remember, Telekom has to check whether the move is possible or not, not you.

    Hello @AlexThurman,

I think it is safe to say, that both parties - you as well as other users - took this conversation into a negative direction due to one or more misunderstandings.

Still, I would like to once again clarify, as several users have already done earlier:

In the case, that a provider (we) can provide you with the exact same connection, you had at your previous address, at your new address, you are not allowed to cancel your current contract prior to its agreed upon minimum runtime.
Your claim, that german law allows you to terminate your contract prior to the end of its minimum runtime, because there is already another active contract at that addresse, is therefore not true.

(You could, for example, have a DSL-landine connection from one provider and an internet contract via TV-cable from another in the same flat/house.)

I am sure, that your case has already been looked at by another colleague of ours, if you have filled in the form, that you have been given in an earlier post. Please check your inbox. Did you receive an answer or perhaps already a confirmation for the termination of your contract from us?

I sadly couldn't reach you via telephone a moment ago to discuss this with you in person. When would a call best suit you?
Should you have any further questions, please let me know.

    Kind Regards
    Jonas Bl.

In your case you have to select the second option.

"We first check whether we can continue to provide the service of your previous contract unchanged. Please fill out this contact form. After the check we will contact you. If we cannot provide the service, the contract ends at the desired time, but at the earliest when you move out. Otherwise, the contract ends at the end of the minimum contract period"

Google-Translator will help you filling out this Form
