Hybrid connection 5G Antenna keeps experiencing power issues & flashing orange light on the router.

Hi there Telekom,

For the past week or so, maybe week and a half - I've noticed my connection speed dropping to 90 as opposed to the usual 250/300 or so I get when the 5G antenna is on. I believe the power adaptor or cable for the 5G antenna may be damaged somewhere since it keeps shutting off randomly throughout the day.

A simple "plug and restart" will resolve the issue for about 2 - 3 hours before the orange light begins once again flashing on the router with a message stating that it cannot connect to the 5G antenna.

I have tried numerous restarts to resolve this issue but, no dice. At the moment, I'm unplugging and re-plugging daily between 2 - 5 times throughout the day and it's becoming a little tedious.

Any advice is greatly welcomed,

Thanks!

@gPhil: Are you using the original cables between the 5G receiver and the PoE power supply unit and between the PoE power supply unit and the Smart 4? Can you find OU001 messages in the system messages of the Smart 4?

From the OU001 error messages I have the following - 2024-10-13 14:53:17 (OU001) Der Speedport hat die physikalische Verbindung zum 5G Empfänger verloren.

Do these messages correlate with the switching on or off of energy-intensive electrical appliances?

Do you have the option of connecting a switch that is independent of the home network between the PoE power supply unit and the Smart 4?

    Hi Ulrich,

No - they seemingly occur randomly throughout the day.

As for the option of connecting a switch that is independent of the home network - what do you mean by this? Do you mean power connection? If so, yes - I've already tried with a camping battery to see if maybe the electrical switch in the wall was faulty - but, it's not and the issue persists.

No, I don't mean a power connection, I mean an Ethernet Switch:

    like this managed one:

You connect one socket to the PoE power supply unit using a short LAN cable and another to the blue Link/LAN 1 socket on the Smart 4 using the original cable.

What type of Smart 4 do you have, you can find the name here:

    Hi there Ulrich,

I'm familiar with networking switches - I just wasn't sure if you meant power or network - as for testing with a network switch, I don't think I'll be doing that for a few reasons - primarily, I don't want to add another device into the mix when I (was) running without any issue prior.

I do believe that the issue is related to the power cable, I have checked its full length and there seems to be a slight "nick" in one part of the cable, it's bent more than a cable should be and looks a little curled in one part? Looks like the cabling inside of the sheathing has moved or potentially overheated? I've seen this in power cables for 240v units on PC's before so I'm wondering if it's the same issue?

As for the PoE box, I'm happy to just buy a new one if that's what it would take - as for the switch however, I don't really understand or see a benefit to doing that? Apologies if that comes off as defiant, but I don't think I want to be adding more devices to the mix as I stated earlier.

    Thanks!

    Hi there Christian!

Apologies - I had a rather important work meeting over Teams - but, the problem seemingly has resolved itself? I am not sure what has changed but, I think since yesterday I have not had another outage? I will monitor the situation and, should it happen again I'll definitely drop a response here Zwinkernd

Thanks for checking in and I appreciate it, but I think for now it seems rather stable - I will be busy with work meetings most of this week so I cannot safely say what time I'll be available on the phone,

    Thanks again!

    Hi there Christian,

After a couple days - it went right back to crashing, restarting, shutting down, losing connection and so on. Is there a way I can upload directly the logs to you?

With regards to telephoning, if you could call me - I hope English isn't an issue, that'd be great. I would like to get to the bottom of this as it's impacting my ability to focus on my work.

    Thanks!

    Phil

    Christian!

I'm sorry! I hadn't seen my phone as I was talking to my wife. Got a little carried away with our discussion,

I'm free to talk right now if you're available - if not, Friday evening will also be fine - I'll make sure to keep an eye out for the phone. Apologies.

PS - DHL collected the 5G antenna yesterday, I sent everything that was shipped to me.
