Speedport 4 im Multimediaschrank

vor 2 Jahren

Dear members,

I just moved to Germany so I basically don't speak the language... so I was hoping that perhaps some of you could help me.

My apartment has a wall cabinet for the router installation. I see some kind of splitter that should send Ethernet to the rooms but I have 2 problems as in my old house in Athens, the router was simply a 'plug & play' solution next to my TV.

1. I don't think the Speedport Smart 4 will fit the cabinet

2. What kind of 'sorcery' do I need to do to get it to work plugged to a wall socket IF without the router the rooms have no ethernet???

The cabinet has ethernet ports numbered from 1-3, the same as the plugs in the rooms. Also, are these patch cables specific?

I cannot find any schematics for this as the Telekom official digital manual only has one cable that connects to the middle DSL line (I believe). If you guys have any sample photos or schematics as well I would REALLY appreciate it!

Thanks a lot in advance for any support as I am getting the router on the 17th and have no clue what to do. Shall I get a specialist instead?

Just to add some hints to the answer of @Gelöschter Nutzer

Either you can place the router in the cabinet or in a room with a network outlet.

If you place it in the cabinet and be aware of a poor Wi-Fi Performance then just plug the grey cable which’s is on the left bottom side to the dsl outlet of the router.
Then you can patch any of the yellow Ethernet Ports of the router to the rooms outlets 1,2,3.

If you place the router in room 1,2 or 3, patch the grey cable to outlet 1, 2 or 3 in the cabinet and patch the dsl port of the router to the corresponding outlet in the room.

I’m following up with the solution I came to in case it is of help to others.

I purchased a DSL adapter ( TAE -F male connection and RJ45 female connection). I used this adapter as a replacement for the DSL cable that came with the Speedport Smart 4 (black cord with grey connectors) in order connect the DSL signal to one of the LAN cables that connected directly to an ethernet port in a different room.

I then moved my Speedport Smart 4 to the connected ethernet port which was in a different room. I then used the LAN cable with RJ45 plugs that came with the Speedport Smart 4 (black cord with yellow connectors) to connect this ethernet port to the DSL socket on the Speedport Smart 4 (grey). This allowed the wifi to function with the modem/router in a different room than the source DSL signal.

In order to enable the ethernet ports in all of the other rooms to access the internet, I then used a regular LAN ethernet cable to connect a LAN socket on the Speedport Smart 4 (yellow) to another ethernet port which was directly connected to the splitter in my cable box.
