19% VAT on €44.45

vor 4 Stunden

Can someone please explain to me why I am paying 19% VAT on my glass fibre 150 contract all of a sudden since January this year? Telekom is always looking for ways to take my money and I don't understand why this is always the case.

Based on Article 105 (2) of the Basic Law (Grundgesetz, GG), Germany has the Value Added Tax Act (Umsatzsteuergesetz, UStG).
Section 12(1) of the Value Added Tax Act (UStG) states:

“(1) The tax amounts to 19 percent of the assessment basis for each taxable transaction (Sections 10, 11, 25(3), and 25a(3) and (4)).”

Therefore, a value added tax of 19% is payable here.

As with all other customers, your Fiber 150 contract is subject to 19% value added tax.

Is there something more behind your question than just the tax?
Are you really asking about the contract — is anything unclear?

As far as taxes are concerned — yes, pretty much everything you do has some kind of tax on it.
If you sign up for a plan or tariff, it includes value added tax.
If you buy a few bread rolls at the bakery, there’s VAT on that as well.

Almost everything you buy is subject to some form of tax.

In Germany, providers are required to display prices including tax when dealing with private customers.
In the US, for example, you often see prices where the tax is added on top at the checkout.
However, on the invoice itself, the tax must be shown separately.

Could it be that this is what’s causing the confusion?

      Hello @Omomary,

the exact invoice amount is stated on the respective monthly invoice.

      Kind regards

Thanks for the clarification, I'm just not familiar with it and just noticed it because in my previous invoices, it was never included or deducted.

      @Omomary

The price you pay already includes VAT. As the end consumer, you pay including VAT. And that's how the price is stated on the order confirmation. Nothing new there.
