Access points for Speedport Smart 4
vor 2 Jahren
Hello, I am a business client and in our store, we use this router Speedport Smart 4. We have about 30 in-store devices, mostly connected via LAN which are running fine. The problem comes when the store gets busy and a lot of visitors try to connect to the WiFi. Often times when we have more than 40 or so visitors, the WiFi becomes unstable and new visitors can no longer connect to it. We've tried different DHCP settings, setting a guest network, etc. but nothing seems to help, it really looks like this router cannot support this type of workload.
So my question is simple - is there a device from the Speed product line that can work as an Access point, that we can use to solve this problem?

@KI90: The Speed Home WLAN are optimally suited for the Speedport Smart 4.

Thank you for your reply, @UlrichZ
I am looking at the Speed Home WLAN device but I cannot see anywhere on its info page that it can act as an Access point. I do not need better coverage (extender/repeater), I need to setup 2 or 3 access points that can work parallel to the router and distribute the workload automatically. Can you confirm that the Speed Home WLAN can do that?

@KI90: What do you mean by that? That a network device (client) transmits the data simultaneously via WLAN over connections to several access points to and from the router.
How large is this workload? The Smart 4 and the Speed Home WLAN support WiFi 6, which delivers high transmission data rates.

We are trying to accommodate up to 60 visitors with their smartphones using the WiFi at the same time, and this seems to be a problem for the Speedport Smart 4 router. So what I am trying to say is, the problem is not a low signal coverage that can be solved by adding a WiFi extender. I think we need a device that can work as an Access point, so people can connect to it and make the router itself not so busy.

@KI90: Then look for access points with a routing function that create their own subnet independent of the Smart 4. I can't give you any advice on this.
The Smart 4 and the Speed Home WLAN are components for private customers. A family does not use 60 smartphones at the same time ;-).
What kind of connection do you have, i.e. what speed? Maybe it's not the Smart 4 that's slowing you down, but the Internet connection?

Not so sure, with today's "smart homes", everything is looking for WiFi :~)
Joke aside - we are on Company start 100, so I am guessing this is 100mbps. But I dont think this is a problem as our visitors just use the WiFi to open a simple webpage for registration and web content, there are no videos or downloading of large files involved. Same for the devices connected via LAN.

@KI90: Okay, 1,7 MBits/s for every Smartphone, ;-).
I have informed the Telekom Teamies , wait and see, they may have the right business customer solution for you.
