Aggressive door-to-door fibre sales
Hello everyone,
Today two Telekom sales representatives came to my door. I told them clearly, several times, that I am happy with my current tariff and do not wish to switch to fibre optic. In response, they repeatedly insisted that I am obliged to switch, and that Telekom will only support fibre going forward. I asked the same question several times and always got the same answer.
They then told me to get ready for the appointment with the technical team and asked me to sign on a tablet. Only afterwards did I realise that I had apparently signed the contract for the new fibre connection. I found the whole conversation very pushy, and I had no chance to think the decision over calmly.
My questions:
- Is it true that I am obliged to switch to fibre – do I really have no other choice?
- If I was given false information here, how can I withdraw from this contract and keep my existing tariff?
I would really appreciate any assessment and advice on how to proceed. Thanks in advance!

I am afraid this was very likely a scam. A similar thing happened to a neighbor of mine and she not only signed on some stuff but also gave them her banking details. Later she called customer service and she was told they have nothing to do with this door to door thing. To date she hasn't been charged anything suspicious but please I recommend you call the customer service asap and ask if you can protect yourself through their help somehow.

@haideriali the company Ranger is contracted by us to run a door-to-door campaign informing and if possible selling fiber connections in areas we are currently upgrading to a full fiber connection.
These salespeople should identify themselves via company ID and an identification letter. Those documents include details that the hotline, and we can verify.
Unfortunately there are also people who impersonate them so if you have any doubt contact us or refuse any interaction.
Kind regards

Nobody forces you to have an internet connection!
If you however insist on having such, there are alternatives via mobile network or satellite.
If you insinst on having a physical variant, then probably yes you WILL be obliged to switch to fibre as the idea is to give up on copper (DSL) lines. When that will take place depends on where you live. There are already areas where DSL is not available anymore. For the biggest part of locations however DSL will still be available several years (actually an idea on EU level was to shut down DSL in few years)
In the past Telekom was required to provide phone/internet connection for everybody, which was quite costly ("Universaldienst"). This has changed. Hence some people are stranded as Telekom is no more willing to establish new DSL house connections or even repair damaged DSL house connections.
To summarize: I guess that probably this was a scam - or at least that the info was presented in such a way that you wrongly understood that immediate action is required.
f I was given false information here, how can I withdraw from this contract

No matter wheter the info was false or correct: in your case (of being contacted at home without prior appointment) you can use the legal "Widerrufsrecht" within 14 days upon reception of the contract confirmation "Auftragsbestätigung". You should receive a corresponding information together with the "Auftragsbestätigung"
What I strongly recommend is to inform yourself on what is going on in your community with respect to fiber (and alternatives)

Thank you so much @muc80337_2 ,
Thanks to your message, I found the 'Widerrufsrecht' section of the "Auftragsbestätigung" and cancelled the contract.

No, that is currently not true. Copper lines might be switched of eventually, but there is currently no date for that.
If I was given false information here, how can I withdraw from this contract and keep my existing tariff?

Just wait til they send you the order confirmation ("Auftragsbestätigung"), this will contain information on how to cancel.
Never talk to salespeople who ring on your doorbell, never sign anything!
Best wishes,
Thomas

Hi @cihanandac,
our user already gave you the correct answers. If you want us to look into the issue further let us know. While it is a long term goal to switch permanently from DSL to fiber there are no hard cut-off dates yet.
I also encourage you that ask the landlord or company if they at least agreed to establish a fiber connection to the object just so you have the option to switch in the future if you are interested.
If you have further questions let us know.
Kind regards
Sören

Hi @Sören G. ,
Thank you for your reply. The answers from you and the other users really helped me understand my options.
I now believe the people at my door weren't scammers, just door-to-door salespeople whose approach was a bit off. Still, I'd be glad to know that Telekom takes feedback like mine seriously — and makes sure its representatives identify themselves clearly and explain any changes without exaggeration or pressure (I won't even say "without lying").
Thanks again!
