yes sure you can cancel your subscription at www.telekom.de/retoure

but you had to know, that the contract for the router is about 1 year and if you cancel it earlier you have to pay a compensation!

That is not an original Telekom offer.

From Telekom you can buy the Fritzbox 7590 for s.th. like 230 Euro (my latest info).

If you cancel the Speedport Smart 3 rental contract then you might be required to pay up to 30 Euro for covering the damage to Telekom from your early cancellation (minimal rental duration is 12 months)

I am quite a new customer and would like to change my existing rented Speedport 3 to a Fritzbox 7590 i.e. return my Speedport and buy a Fritzbox.

I have seen it is possible for new customers to buy the Fritzbox for 79.90. Is it also possible for existing customers?

1) First of all, Telekom itself  does n o t   offer Fritzbox 7590 for 79.90 Euros , neither for new nor for existing customers.

    Telekom has a higher price than e.g. Amazon (200 Euros).

2) Use 

    www.routermiete.de

    approx. 50 % cheaper than Telekom requiring 7,95 Euros / month.

3) Concerning returning Smart 3 to Telekom, you have to pay compensation due to rental contract of

    minimum 12 months.
