moving to Germany - questions about internet with Telekom (VDSL and for later Fiber)
vor 9 Tagen
hi, moving to Germany (from the Middle East), and wondering if anyone can explain and help how these might connect to my current Ubiquiti setup. here in middle east, is straight forward with PPPoE and that's it, but i have been told it is a lot more complicated in Germany. i have been told that my apartment will have Deutsche Telekom DSL. they said i require a ADSL/VDSL/ VDSL2 modem.
as I understand myself, Telekom DSL is simply PPPoE login with password, is that correct? this would work my with current UCK-G2-PLUS?
anything else i need to consider, purchase, setup and/ or solutions anyone might have additionally?
have the following:
- 1x UCK-G2-PLUS (CloudKey+)
- 1x USG
- 1x US-16-150W
- 3x UAP-AC-IW
- 2x UAP-IW-HD
thank you all in advance for your help.

It's PPPoE with VLAN ID 7. Authentication is via user/password that they will provide you with or, enabled by default for any new customer, with EasyLogin (enable/disable in customer center) where you even don't need user/password but instead get authenticated by the line you are coming in.
As only the USG is connecting with the modem directly, the rest of your Unifi gear will work as usual (including the CloudKey).

Hi @rocafella1978.
In Germany, Deutsche Telekom DSL typically uses PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) for internet connections, which requires a login and password. This setup should be compatible with your current Ubiquiti equipment, including the UCK-G2-PLUS (CloudKey+), USG, US-16-150W, UAP-AC-IW, and UAP-IW-HD.
Here are the steps you need to follow:
ADSL/VDSL/VDSL2 Modem: Ensure you have a compatible modem that supports ADSL, VDSL, or VDSL2, as required by Deutsche Telekom.
PPPoE Configuration: Configure your modem or router with the PPPoE credentials provided by Deutsche Telekom. This typically involves entering the username and password into the modem/router's settings.
Ubiquiti Setup: Connect your Ubiquiti devices to the modem. The USG (Ubiquiti Security Gateway) will handle the PPPoE connection if configured correctly. You can set up the PPPoE connection in the USG's WAN settings.
Network Configuration: Ensure that your Ubiquiti network devices (CloudKey+, switches, and access points) are properly connected and configured to distribute the internet connection throughout your apartment.
Additional considerations:
Firmware Updates: Ensure all your Ubiquiti devices are running the latest firmware to avoid compatibility issues.
Kind regards,
Martin Bo.
