Replcae Glasfaser/Fiber modem with another vendor
vor 5 Jahren
Dear friends,
I am looking for router to my apartment. I found that it would be quite usefull to have only 1 device to manage routing.
That's why I want to use router with fiber SFP port for example Mikrotik https://mikrotik.com/product/CSS326-24G-2SplusRM.
I know that router for authorization uses PPPOE via VLAN7.
Does any encryption present inside bridge / modem ? Is it possible that I change to any type of routers with Fiber port?
What should I do if I setup my device instead?
Thank you very much,
Michael

You can, but there are very less devices to choose from, you need a compatible ONT '" href="https://telekomhilft.telekom.de/t5/Glossar/ ONT /ta-p/4399121" target="_blank"> ONT for passive GPON, single mode, LCAPC 8grade curved fibre.
For example the AVM Fritzbox 5190.
The communication is encrypted with an single password which the Telekom will provide you.
But there is no disadvantage having the default ONT '" href="https://telekomhilft.telekom.de/t5/Glossar/ ONT /ta-p/4399121" target="_blank"> ONT since it's only a modem, and no router. It don't route anything that's the doing of your router establishing directly an pppoe connection via it.

@Mr. Oizo
5190?
Du meinst wohl die Fritzbox 5490?
Aber aufgepasst, die 5490 ist für ein Punkt-zu-Punkt-Glasfasernetz.
Nur die Fritzbox 5491 ist für ein Punkt-zu-Mehrpunkt-Netz und somit für das GPON-Netz der Telekom geeignet.

What I understand from the link: This is not a router but rather just a switch - if you do not know the difference between a switch and a router... maybe you better stick to what Telekom recommends as products that work.

@muc8033.7It is not just a bridge (not switch as you mentioned. switch is a bit different). The fiber GPON has ability to encrypt traffic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_optical_network#Security
It requires to have keys or what else. I have not worked with Fiber devices, so it is not clear for me the role of the bridge in Telekom networking.
Here is some related topic but I do not have a good Deutsch to translate it properly. ONT -GPON-Router/td-p/3867103" target="_blank">https://telekomhilft.telekom.de/t5/Zuhause/Echte- ONT -GPON-Router/td-p/3867103
Overall thank you for your help. I appreciate it.
