Unable to setup a Wifi Extender
Hello
Due to the construction of the apartment, one of my working room is not in good coverage of the Wireless signal of the Speedport Smart 3, so I bought a EX3110 Netgear Wifi Extender and tried to install it for better coverage.
During the first day of installation, the Extender worked perfectly and I can have better conncectivity in my working room. However, just after a few hours, the connectivity stopped, and I tried many times to connect the extender to the Speedport Smart 3, but could not. After upgrading the extender firmware and reset it, I could connect the second time to the Speedport router. This also lasted just a few hours before the connection between the extender and Speedport broke again.
After that I could not bring up the connection anymore.
I checked with the Speedport settings, but did not see whether the Extender MAC Address or anything to block the connection.
Please let me know how to fix it. I need this badly, as I have to move my laptop to another room for working and it is very inconvenient.
Thanks.

There may be no compatibility, which could cause problems between your Speedport Smart 3 and the Netgear repeater. You can try the following. Get a "SpeedHome WIFI (white)" from Amazon or eBay. This is 100% compatible with your Speedport. Alternatively, there is the "SpeedHome WLAN (black)". Or order the WLAN Comfort package from Telekom. This consists of a Speedport Smart 4 and a SpeedHome WLAN and costs either €6.95 per month (€9.95 from the 13th month).

Hi, thanks for the quick answer. But if it is not compatible, how can we explain the previous successful connectivity ? We can use it for a few hours before the connection breaks ...
thanks

@ductri
Incompatibility can also mean that it works for a certain time and then not again. Therefore, it is always advisable to buy routers and repeaters from the same manufacturer or from the same series.

thanks. Is it possible that the inconnectivity is blocked from service provider's side ? That may explain on the necessity to buy the same device from Telekom...

No!
So I believe there is no way to bring up this Netgear Repeater against Speedport smart 3 ?
nobody knows whats wrong with your netgear Device. Did you ask netgear for Support?
In Speedport itself you could try to set the wifi protection to "wpa2 only"

Hi @ductri ,
I think nothing is blocked, seems more like a configuration problem or a problem with the repeater.
You can try a factory reset and then go for the manual installation - or did you do that already?
There are several settings that can be changed or optimized. Maybe someone here has this repeater and can help during the day. You cannot expect answers within some hours only as this is not a very common setup for most of us here in this community. You could have better chances in the Netgear forum.
The recommendation for Speed Home WLAN or Speed Home WiFi is good because then you really have it almost plug and play and many experienced users here can support in case of any problems.
Best wishes,

I do not expect just a short time to resolve this, as i have spent almost a week to try everything possible before asking. BTW, i have returned back to Amazon a few repeater before my first successful connection with this Netgear. That's why i don't really understand what the real problem is.

Welcome to our community @ductri,
as @HappyGilmore already mentioned, full compatibility can't always be given between devices of different manufacturers.
So the best choice would be the combination already mentioned as well:
You can try the following. Get a "SpeedHome WIFI (white)" from Amazon or eBay. This is 100% compatible with your Speedport. Alternatively, there is the "SpeedHome WLAN (black)". Or order the WLAN Comfort package from Telekom. This consists of a Speedport Smart 4 and a SpeedHome WLAN and costs either €6.95 per month (€9.95 from the 13th month).
In this case both devices would be from us, and it'll be possible to give you proper support.
Kind regards
Louisa

Are you saying that Telekom devices do not comply with the WLAN standards? Or are you claiming that all other providers of WLAN-enabled devices do not comply with the standard? That would basically be the only explanation. However, devices from different manufacturers should already work together, with the unfortunate exception of mesh systems.

Thank you for your question @mboettcher. To clarify, Telekom devices are designed to comply with all relevant WLAN standards. The recommendation to use devices from the same manufacturer is primarily about ensuring the best compatibility and performance. However, using devices from different manufactures together can sometimes lead to issues, such as reduced performance and connectivity challenges. Kind regards, Martin Bo.
