Magenta Mobile and Public IP

vor einem Monat

Hello,

I recently purchased a Magenta mobile prepaid card, with the objective to switch to a subscription. From coverage and throughput perspective, I must say it is impressive. I have one issue with it, I need to setup a IPSec/Ovpn on my router to be able to connect remotely and check on my other devices. Unfortunately, the APN which is being used by default provides a private IP address, hence, VPN setup is not possible. I am not looking for a dedicated public IP address, as I use DDNS, hence, a dynamic public IP will do.

Does Telekom have an APN which can be utilized to receive a public IP address? If Telekom does not support this option, then what are the alternatives which Telekom can offer? And what would be the cost?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

@Orig_Nobody : you use a LTE /G5 router? In case you want to access devices behind the router from the internet, you can use a server as a gateway. Rent a virtual server as cheap as possible. Offers are from 1 € to less than 10€ per month. Then create a VPN connection from your LAN (router or device behind) to your server. Access your server with another VPN connection from the internet. Then access devices behind the router by their IP in your LAN.

@mboettcher many thanks for the suggestion. My current preference is to look into options which are directly with the Telco, because the security risk of renting a virtual server on the internet. I simply do not know what else is going on the server besides my virtual instance.  Hence my preference is in the first place to understand what Telekom can offer. Other Telco's in Germany do offer APN 's supporting public IP's.

      Hello @Orig_Nobody,

first of all, welcome to our community.
Telekom only assigns private IP addresses for (prepaid) mobile communications.
For our business customer products, the additional product ‘Mobile IP- VPN ’ can be booked if you are interested in a public IP address.
      https://geschaeftskunden.telekom.de/business/
We do not offer this for products in the private customer sector.

      Best regards,
      Kathrin

Hello @Kathrin W.  many thanks for your answer. To clarify you mentioned " Telekom only assigns private IP addresses for (prepaid) mobile communications." Does this mean that if I take a subscription then I can get a dynamic public IP address?

I am a private customer so I don't think the option for your business customers will apply to me.

Surely there must be other private customers who utilize the same functionality to access devices behind their routers on the go. I can not be the only one.

You can use Internet.telekom for a public ipv4 adress. The APN Internet.t-d1.de provide a static ipv4 but it is not officially supported anymore. You can order a static ipv6 adress but i think it is not possible for private customers.

      Hello @Kathrin W.

Thanks the directions in the eSIM, I try to create one.

Regarding the Data volume, What I see in kundencentre is this:

It does not show me how many GB are used or left over. With the prepaid card, it was possible. That was my question.

      Thanks

It does not show me how many GB are used or left over.

Now you have a full flat rate and no data volume is displayed.

      Hello @Orig_Nobody,

exactly, now you are on unlimited data volume. There it does not show you what you have consumed so far.

You could check this on your device. There is a data counter under the settings.

If you reset it to 0.0 every month, it will start counting your actual data consumption again.

Best regards from Anna Lena J.
