Cancellation not going through, moving out

I tried to cancel my Festnetz contract about a week ago because someone else is moving into my apartment. They called Telekom and apparently they are not being allowed to set up a new contract. What should I do?

      Hello @user_ea3fdc, your contract will be canceled to the end of the contract term. If the new tenant wants to make a contract, you have to move your contract to your new apartment first. If we can't provide your current contract to your new address, you have a special termination right.

      I tried to cancel my Festnetz contract about a week ago because someone else is moving into my apartment.

      This might be a motivation - but it is not a legal justification for a cancellation of your contract.

      You can cancel your contract

      • ordinarily ("ordentliche Kündigung") to the end of the minimum duration ("Mindestvertragslaufzeit"), or after minimum duration within one month after cancellation
      • special variant ("außerordentliche Kündigung") due to e.g.
        - you move abroad (foreign country)
        - you move to a different appartment and order also Telekom to move the contract to the new location, but Telekom tells you that they cannot deliver there
      • you move to a different appartment where there is a person that already has a Telekom contract, then Telekom offers on a voluntary basis to agree in an early cancellation of the contract
