Contract cancellation due to moving abroad

Hello, I moved to Germany 2 years ago with 2-year of working contract. I got myslef a phone number with a 2-year contract. The time when I got my contract responsible person told me that whenever I get my de-registration paper, I can easily cancel my contract. I do not speak German so I believed that they explained me. Today I went to same store to cancel my contract as I am permanently leaving Germany this Friday and just got my de-registration paper (PS: earliest you can get it 7 days before you leave - that’s the rule). They told me this is not an issue and immediate cancellation can be done via Internet. So, I went to Telekom website with special notice of moving to abroad. It says only possible after 3 MONTHS! This is non-sense. I am requested a proof of leaving the country which I can get only 7 days before I leave and at the same time they say I need to pay 3 more months of my bill. This is unfair. Then you can just tell people de-register no matter what is the excuse. I am leaving and not coming back. I have an official letter. And nobody is helping unbelievable. I am calling the hotline continuously saying English and cannot find anybody to speak. I requested a colleage to call and even the person on the phone could not believe for moving abroad the system asks for 3-month notice. You cannot have the proof before 3 months!!!!! How this can happen???

3 months notice is the rule according to Telekommunikationsgesetz TKG (telecommunications bill). This is the same for all providers and is codified in law.

@Nico B. Hello Nico, I received an e-mail that Telekom accepted my cancellation of contract as of 31.12.2021. As it is in German I translated it via a tool and I am not sure if I understood everything correctly. Would that be possible for you to help me to understand is there anything I need to do further or should I just pay my bills until the end of December? Or even can we cancel it earlier? I already moved back to my country and not using my Telekom number anymore. Thank you in advance!
