Speedport pro plus and speed home wifi connection failure.
vor einem Monat
Hi,
I'm facing repeated problems with Telekom Mesh network. All of a sudden, the speed home wifi does not connect to the speed port pro plus. The black mesh repeater just blinks red. From the forum, it is clear that many customers faced this problem, but the solution is not clear. I see that most of those problems were reported in 2022/2023, but it was working well for me at that time. In one of the posts, i see that this will be reported to product manager (in 2023), but i dont see any solid solution. I've tried pretty much all trouble shooting hints - checked the firmware, factory reset the devices, plugged them off and restarted, tried to connect using LAN cable, but no luck . Speed port pro plus emits WIFI but the mesh devices just dont work with it. I also purchased a new mesh device to check if problem was with the old ones (not that old, hardly 9 months ), but no, the new one also blinks red. My office room is in the first floor and this wifi problem is a big headache. What can be done to solve this ?

If I remember correctly, a LAN connection requires that a WIFI connection is established first. so the steps would be:
If it can't be made to work this way, I'd probably also try a factory reset of the router (even if that's a pain to do).

Hello @VivekR,
I'm sorry to read that your Speed Home WiFis don't work properly with your router. Have you already followed the advice of @lejupp ?
Kind regards
Malte

Hello,
what happens if you reset the speed home mesh device and connect it in the same room like the speedport pro plus location? does it work then? if no (still red), you should get a new router (if you dont need the pro for LTE , please switch to the speedport smart 4) or get it exchanged by telekom (1:1 faulty exchange).
if it works in the same room, there might be problems with the wifi connection from router to speed home mesh device (in your office location). if it happened to work flawlessly until now, there might be some other devices in your location or neighborhood wifis devices that might disturb the connection now.
for finding these kind of problems and resolving them, you can order a telekom technician for it (the product's name is "Fehlerbehebung Heimnetz", costs arounds 135€)

Hi, thanks for all your feedback. I've reset the Mesh device and the Pro plus multiple times and rebooted them. It doesnt help. I've literally placed the speed home device on top of the Pro plus and tried the WPS way. The connection still doesnt work. Speed home blinks Red. So i believe plugging in a LAN cable is also not going to help in the absence of Wifi connection between the two.
So, with all the feedback and testing, it looks like the Pro Plus is faulty. Sadly its not a rented one from Telekom but a private one that i purchased separately last year. We use DSL but Telekom issued us this model when we moved in here, probably with LTE in mind for future.

Hello @VivekR,
thank you very much for the pleasant call.
We will speak again on Thursday once you have had the opportunity to try out the things we have discussed with the mesh devices and the new router that will hopefully be with you by then.
Kind regards
Jonas

Hi,
Firstly many thanks for your call. I appreciate it. Like we discussed, i've reset the mesh settings in the router's portal. I then reset one Speed home WLAN and tried to connect through the WPS option.
Once i push the Plus button on the Pro Plus and the Speed home WLAN, within 2-3 seconds the plus buttons stop blinking, and the green light on Speed home WLAN blinks. After a minute or two, the Speed home WLAN is still blinking but now in Red.
I'll wait for the new router - speedport smart 4, and then check how it is connecting to the Mesh and update you.

Hello Jonas, All ,
I've managed to solve this problem. A short summary on what worked for me - Reset of Pro Plus router, wait till it starts and gets the default WIFI SSID , then switch it off, unplug it for an hour, plug in again, reset the mesh devices - and it connects !! Only after that i changed the SSID to our personalized one.
Not that i did all these with intention. But it worked.
Actual story for those interested :
I had ordered the Speed port smart 4 out of frustration with Pro Plus. When it arrived, i reset the Pro plus aiming to sell it in Ebay (the Wifi was still very good, just didnt connect to Mesh). I connected SPS4 but strangely i wasn't able to access the router page at all, for several minutes, though there was internet. I could connect to this while using Pro Plus. Finally i gave up and connected back Pro Plus and thought of giving it a final try. I reset the Speed Port WLAN devices, and connected them one by one and it paired !! Perhaps it didnt like me moving on with SPS4 !
The mesh devices, once i move them to their respective locations, which is 3-4 meters away from Router on same floor, suddenly start blinking green and again become stable. This happens constantly. When i connect the TV to this mesh device via LAN cable, its a chaos with frequent disconnections.
For the problem with multi-floor range issues, I tried the 'ethernet via powerline' concept yesterday and it is very stable now with good speeds. I also have one such plug near the TV now, and a Netgear Ethernet splitter sending stable internet to all stationary devices including the TV.
Open confusions :
I still cant connect to the router page of the Speed port WLAN devices to check their firm ware etc., doesnt work.
I can connect the router page of Pro Plus but these Speed port WLAN's are not showing up under 'connected mesh devices'.
But i'm not touching this current set-up, not for now. :-)

Hello @VivekR
thank you very much for posting your solution. I'm glad that it works now.
Yes, a reset of the router can help in many cases. 🙂
It is a little strange that the wifi mesh devices are not shown in the router menu and that you don't get access to their own menu.
You tried http://speedhomewifi ?
By the way, here you can get a return label to send the Speedport Smart 4 back:

Hi, now when I try to access speedhomewifi it automatically reroutes to speedport.ip and shows me the pro plus page. I already returned the SpS4 promptly. No hiccups in finding those services at all.

Hey @VivekR
Okay, then you are connected to the wifi of the Speedport.
If you have a notebook, you can turn off wifi there and connect it with a LAN cable to one of the mesh devices. Then it should work with http://speedhomewifi
Best regards, Inga Kristina

Hey, yes. Just did. It works now. Perfect. Probably it needed that waiting time after all the resets.

If you still have the smart 4, can you please plug it into the power and connect with a device (lan or wlan and just enter https://192.168.2.1 into the browser? if you used https://speedport.ip with other routers before, a lot of a time some cookies/cache gets hung up in the browser and denies your connection to the new router...just try it with the ip. i had these problems often.
if you can enter the menu with the ip adress, give the smart 4 a try. its the better router.
