I live in a French city bordering Germany.
The town of Kehl is only about 20 minutes away, and I spend a lot of time there shopping, getting groceries, going out etc...
I currently use my French mobile plan with roaming when I am in Germany, but it has become a problem because it drains my phone battery quite quickly and is not always convenient.
I was thinking about getting a prepaid SIM card to use when I am in Germany. Would that be possible even if I do not have a German address? Would it be possible to use my French address ?

I’m happy to hear that you’re interested in a prepaid plan.
Unfortunately, a German address is required to purchase one. That’s why the system won’t accept the French address you’ve entered. I’m sorry about that.

Officially, we do require a registered address in Germany.
If the local team has an alternative option for this, we are unfortunately not aware of it.

Rein interessehalber: Wie bekommt dann ein ausländischer Tourist eine Simkarte, wenn ejne deutsche Adresse zwingend erforderlich ist? Merkt ihr selbst, dass das nicht sein kann.
Ich reise viel und habe in jedem Land ne Prepaid Karte bekommen, auch ohne lokale Adresse.
Das Gesetz sagt aus, dass die Identität geprüft werden muss. Von einer Adressprüfung ich nicht die Rede.

das gilt für einen Prepaid-Tarif. Das ist richtig.
Für den Versand einer Prepaidkarte benötigen wir eine deutsche Adresse, die allerdings keine Meldeadresse sein muss.
Auch für das Ident-Verfahren ist dies bei Prepaid- Verträgen nicht erforderlich.
Am einfachsten ist es, bei den Kolleg*innen im Telekom Shop die Prepaid-Karte mit einem gültigen Ausweisdokument zu erwerben.
Dort kann die SIM-Karte auch direkt mitgenommen werden.
