Moving to a Shared Apartment – How Can I Legally End or Transfer My Telekom Internet Contract?

vor 27 Tagen

Hello Telekom Community,

I’m currently in a bit of a difficult situation and would appreciate your guidance.

I have a 2-year Telekom internet contract registered under my name at my current apartment. I’ve already submitted a cancellation request, and Telekom confirmed that the contract will end at the conclusion of the minimum contract period — but not before that.

However, I’m now moving into a shared apartment where internet may already be there by other flat mate. I won’t need or use the Telekom connection anymore, and I’m looking for the most lawful and practical way to end the contract early or transfer it.

Here are my main concerns:

  1. Early Termination (Sonderkündigung)

    • Is it possible to request early cancellation under §46 TKG due to moving into a shared flat where service is not needed?

    • If yes, what kind of proof (e.g., confirmation from new landlord or flat mates) is required?

  2. Contract Takeover (Vertragsübernahme)

    • I read that Telekom only allows a takeover if the new tenant has been living at the address for at least 12 months.

    • Does this mean I cannot transfer the contract to the next tenant at all, even if they are willing?

    • Is there any workaround?

  3. Change of Bank Details

    • If I remain the contract holder, can I change the bank account and let someone else (e.g., flat mate) make the payments until the contract ends?

    • Are there any risks or rules I should know about?

  4. Other Alternatives

    • Is it possible to downgrade the plan to a cheaper one during the remaining contract period?

    • Is Telekom open to negotiating a one-time exit fee instead of monthly payments until the end?

I’d really appreciate any help, advice, or similar experiences you could share. I want to resolve this fairly and according to the contract terms but also in a way that avoids unnecessary costs since I won’t be using the service anymore.

Thank you so much in advance!

Best regards,

M. Hamza

@user_8dhdbj It looks like you already found all relevant information....
Anyway I will escalate your question, it could well be, that the T-Team finds another solution.

      Hello @user_8dhdbj
In your case, the technician has to come to your place to take a closer look and most likely install a TAE socket. Kind regards, Martin Bo.

      Hi @Martin Bo.,

I have a quick question. I actually found the DSL socket in my room; it was behind the wardrobe. Now I want to connect it by myself to avoid the technician's visit cost as there's an option to run it by oneself. My appointment is tomorrow from 8 to 1 pm, is there any possibility to cancel that?

I have tried but couldn't find the option.

      Regards,

      M. Hamza

the technician still has to come to your apartment.

So sadly we cannot cancel the appointment.

      Kind regards
