Telekom won't cancel my internet contract and keeps charging bills
2 years ago
Hello
I have moved last month to a new place, where Telekom does not provide any services. I called, wen't through the process of confirming that I can cancel with 1 month notice and got approval. I sent an application via the portal - did everything correctly.
Then, nothing happened. No real confirmation, nothing. I contacted customer center twice - they said something about updating system and that it is all accepted and correct, just I need to wait for post a bit longer.
Today I received a bill for this month...at the new address where they don't even provide any service! Is that even legal? Like, what the hell is this...
What should I do? I feel lke calling them again is pointless and this looks like intentional fraud. Is there any customer protection agency that helps in such cases? I don't want to just stop paying as probably Telekom would report me to Schufa and it would be another paperwork nightmare to correct.

A renowned company like Deutsche Telekom will of course not defraud you intentionally, no worries. The cancellation process just takes some time. AFAIK it is normal that you have received another bill for this month. The cancellation will only become effective after 3 months, see e.g., https://telekomhilft.telekom.de/t5/Festnetz-Internet/Sonderkuendigung-Formular/m-p/3242390.
Best regards,

Sadly, compared to other countries, the process of handling things can be exhausting, lengthy and complicated.
Nowadays the Deutsche Telekom has no obligation to provide certain services for basic needs anymore and others may jump in. This can be a pain as well.
There's no other way than to plan things early in advance and to be patient afterwards.

Guten Abend @Jedlina ,
thanks for writing and the given description of your current issue.
I'm really sorry that we cannot provide your landline plan at your new address.
As you already wrote, you use your right of extraordinary termination and did all steps for cancellation.
I'd really like to check for you if all details are attached and the charges you got.
For this we need to make a legitimation by phone. Please fill in your contact data in your profile and give me a hint, when you are available.
@andiling I'm also here for you! It seems to me that you're also having a current issue or something we need to talk about. Feel free to give me more details and a time frame for a call.
@teezeh the mentioned thread is a little bit to old. Nowadays the right of extraordinary termination in this case is about a month to the end of month.
Best regards
Sarah D.

Sarah D.

Hi, @Sarah D.,
thanks for asking. No, there's nothing to do. (; Everything is fine at my end. I was just talking about my experiences abroad but that's nothing to blame the Deutsche Telekom AG in specific for. In many countries things are "as you go". If you need an internet connection you get one and if you don't need anymore you can cancel anytime. A notice period is not common. In Germany many things are inflexible.
