Unable to use DSL connection in shared flat. Is early termination possible?

vor 29 Tagen

Hello Telekom Community,

I am currently living in a shared apartment (WG) with two other roommates. Before I signed the Telekom DSL contract, we agreed that we would share the internet costs equally. Based on that agreement, I registered the internet contract under my name and the monthly payment is taken from my bank account. However, after a few months my roommates stopped paying their share of the internet costs, which has already created a financial problem for me. There is also another issue. The apartment has only one DSL socket, and it is located in one of my roommate’s rooms. The DSL cable that connects to my modem must come from that room.

Recently, this roommate told me that he no longer allows the DSL cable to be connected through his room. He does not allow the cable to stay connected to the socket and also does not allow the cable to come out of his room anymore. As a result, I currently do not have access to the internet connection, even though the contract is still active and I am still paying for it.

My question is: Given this situation, is it possible to cancel my Telekom contract earlier than the minimum contract period? Although the contract is under my name, I currently no longer have access to the DSL socket in the apartment, so I cannot use the internet service at all. Thank you for your help.

      Hi @0:0,

I am sorry regarding your situation unfortunately that is not a sufficient reason to cancel your contract earlier. The connection is technically viable.

Maybe you can reason with your roommates. I wish you luck with that.

      Kind regards

@0:0 There's already a telephone socket. Therefore, you as the tenant will be charged for relocating it if you want it moved to someone else's address. But what exactly can't you use? You should be able to access the internet via Wi-Fi.

      Kind Regards Wiebke

The problem is that the modem cannot stay connected to the DSL socket. The only telephone socket in the apartment is inside my roommate’s private room, and he does not allow the DSL cable to remain connected or pass through his room. Because of this, the connection cannot be maintained.

      So the situation is essentially:

DSL cable unplugged → modem offline → no internet → no Wi-Fi

Since the modem cannot stay connected to the DSL line, the internet connection is not active at all, which means Wi-Fi cannot work either. I also shared several photos of the modem and the DSL cable route in my first message, which you can review as well.

      Best regards

      Hi @0:0

Then you might take legal action against your roommate who former agreed with you to cooperate and now does not anymore.

But these circumstances do not allow an earlier cancellation of the contract.

      Best regards Inga Kristina

Consider to involve your landlord. Especially if your rental agreement mentions the ability to use DSL or a landline phone.
