Moving to another apartment with an established connection of another provider
4 years ago
Hello!
I am moving to a new apartment that has already established internet connection by the landlord.
Thus, I would like to terminate my contract.
What are the options that I have and what is the procedure that I have to follow for the termination?
Thank you in advance!

Hi there,
as usual in Germany, there is a law for almost every situation you may encounter in your daily life. The law relevant in your case is the TKG (telecommunications bill).
When moving to another flat, you have the right to end your contract at three months' notice if and only if your current provider can not provide the same service at your new address. (You can check the availability of Telekom services at your new address HERE). There are exceptions from this rule if you move in with your partner, but this does not seem to be the case here.
Your only option is to officially notify Telekom about you moving to another place according to TKG and they will check whether they will be able to fulfil the contract at the new address. If so, the contract will continue for the remainder of the contract duration.
However, there may be a chance of a goodwill agreement in your situation. So – if you haven't done so already – enter contact details into your profile so that a Telekom team member can contact you.
I am sorry that this might me not be the answer you were hoping for.

If your current tarif is technically not available when moving to your new apartment,
you have the option of extraordinary termination of your Telekom contract with a notice
period of 3 months to the end of the month (termination due to unavailability when moving)
just call 0800 33 01000

@harispap83 If you have entered contact details in your profile (cf. link in my signature), you can also wait until a Teamie will contact you. In that case, they will already know you are an English speaking customer.

@Sören G. Thank you for the reply! I have called the hotline and they were very kind and helpful! I am allowed to cancel earlier indeed so they have sent me an email with the confirmation and a return sign for the router and the magenta device. The date of the termination is 3 months from now.
Up to here everything works good, I just have some questions to clarify
1. After I have the Kündigungsbestätigung, is anything alse needed from my side?
2. Until when should I send the devices back? Because I will be on holidays the next weeks, is there a deadline?
3. When I talked with your colleague, she told me that I have to send to telekom my new anmeldug document. Where should I send it and may I also scan it and sent it via email?
Thank you in advance!
Best

Hi there @harispap83 and sorry for the late reply.
1. No, you don't have to do anything anymore apart from sending the old devices back to us.
2. Here is the website where you can get the return labels for said devices.
3. No, you don't have to send us the "Anmeldung" document, we don't need it.
If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Kind regards
Nico B.
