Cancelling DSL contract

I had taken a dsl connection starting from 27 July 2016 and I had applied for a contract termination to be done as early as 27 July 2018. I even received a confirmation fro Telekom regarding this with a letter dated 07 October 2017. In the meantime Unity media which I took a connection they asked me to fill up a form for taking up the service and I did so. What happened is that they said they will help in terminating the contract with telekom.
Now it is july 2018 and I see the telekom contract is extended for another year. and I crossed a one month notice period. When checked with telekom they say that Unitymedia had cancelled the contract termination.
How is it possible that they are authorised to cancel my request to terminate the contract. It is said that now I have to pay another 500 euros or so for nothing. I am using Unitymedia now and I am paying for both the services where I need only 1.

Please note: since the provider change process is cancelled, there will be no porting of your current telefone number to Unity Media! I hope this was coordinated with you. If not, the way Unity Media handled the process is even more incorrect.

Dear Felix,
Thank you for taking the extra effort you made to call me on phone and explain the situation. I really appreciate your professionalism.
I thank Telekom as well as you people in sorting this issue and saving me from losing money.
From reviews in social media I thought I will lose money and customer service is bad from Telekom. Now I can surely say Telekom is it is nothing like that.
I will surely come back to Telekom once I finish my contract with Unitymedia.
